Clinique in Abu Dhabi

by - August 01, 2017

In all honesty, one of the best things about being a blogger is being recognized by brands you love or admire.

A few weeks ago a received a package from Clinique, accompanied with a note revealing exciting news — the opening of their first freestanding store in the Middle East. In the heart of the city of Abu Dhabi, the store is located in the new extension of Al Wahda Mall — one of my favorite malls in the Emirate, and I am so happy to see new stores opening (or opening soon) there.

The package included a few products, along with an invitation to visit the store and get to pick out a few products from I would like to personally try.

While the products were gifted as PR and I personally do love the brand, any opinions about the products that I have tried thus far (spoiler: just the lipsticks for now) are 100% genuine.

In the package, I received the Pep-Start Hydroblur moisturizer, along with 3 of the Pop lipsticks. To the touch, the moisturizer has a silicone-y texture, so I do not know how my skin would like it as I prefer more hydrating moisturizers rather than smoothing, but I'm looking forward to trying it as it is supposed to be good for oily skin.

As for the lipsticks, I am in love! They are supposed to be matte, but to me they have more of a satin finish. They are so smooth and creamy, and very comfortable on the lips. Not drying at all. I am not pink lipstick kind of girl, but I am loving the nude and the dark red shades. The nude lipstick is the perfect 'my lips but better' kind of shade for my skin tone, so it is absolutely perfect for day wear as well as for times I want a subtle lip look. The red, however, is a bold statement lip color that is suitable for all seasons in my opinion. The color does fade with eating, but I found that I get a nice stain from this shade. Unfortunately, however, the red shade sometimes looks slightly patchy from the first application and requires a couple of layers, but I still like it.

Visiting the store, I loved seeing that all Clinique products that would come to mind are put on display, unlike the smaller counters located within department stores where it was harder finding the product you wanted. As one would expect, the store has testers for all the products I personally looked at, gift sets, as well as experienced staff who obviously knew what they were doing.

The first product I had in mind was their Beyond Perfecting foundation + concealer. I have heard a lot about its coverage and flawless look on the skin, so I wanted to give it a go, being obsessed with foundations lately. By just taking a look at my skin, the sales assistant was able to match up my skin tone immediately. The shade I went with is 9 neutral which is a very good match to my skin. This shade does have a red undertone to it compared to my other foundations, making it slightly too cool for me. I did not want to go with a lighter or warmer shade, however, to avoid having it turn grey on me or look too orange.

I have seen people getting two shades of this foundation, a lighter one as a concealer and a base, and a darker one to use around the edges of the face to give definition. This is a very good idea if you like mixing foundations, but I personally like having only 1 shade of most foundations because I do not want to accumulate products that I will not use often.
The foundation claims to have a perfecting medium to full coverage without being too heavy on the skin. It is also oil free, moisturizing, and has a natural matte finish perfect for combination or oily skin types. I will be experimenting with this and writing my thoughts in a separate post either here on the blog or on Instagram.

The second product that I was intrigued to try is their Clarifying Lotion 3, which I have seen my sister using before. The toner comes in 4 different formulas depending on the skin type, and I got the one for combination-oily skin. I was told that this not only tones but also gently exfoliates the skin which intrigued me even more.

The final product I picked out is the famous Sonic System. I already own a cleansing device from Clarisonic (the PLUS size which comes with a body brush — review here), but it is bulkier than than the Clinique one and so it is hard to travel with. I picked out this one to test it out and see which is better for my skin, and also to take with me on any trips that I have. Like the Clarisonic, this device is also waterproof to be used in the shower if needed, and is rechargeable, so you can fully charge it at home and then travel without the charger because it is said to last up to 3 hours with a full charge.

I highly recommend for every woman to invest in a cleansing device. As I have mentioned in one of my posts (click here), removing makeup with wipes or micellar water only is not enough to fully cleanse your skin. Pick the brand and design that suits you and your budget, but a cleansing device is important to keep you skin looking and feeling clean. This device costs AED 590.

Congratulations to Clinique on the new opening, and thank you for inviting me to be part of it.

Thank you for reading.
