Review: Derma e Makeup Remover

by - July 15, 2018

Hello, gorgeous!

Today’s post is a short one. I am reviewing a makeup remover / cleanser that I have been using for the past couple of months. It is the Derma e makeup remover with chamomile and cucumber extracts

The product is oil- and fragrance-free. It is also vegan and cruelty free, and claims to remove waterproof mascara, transfer-proof lipstick and long lasting makeup.

The cleanser has a very liquidy consistency, similar to a thin gel cleanser but has the slip of an oil on the skin. It is very gentle on the skin and breaks up makeup pretty well. It is an excellent remover for face makeup mainly. However, it doesn’t perform as well on heavy eye makeup and matte liquid lipsticks from my experience.

For heavy eye makeup, I have to use it twice around my eyes and I sometimes have to use micellar water or an oil-based makeup remover after it to remove leftover product. It is good with the mascaras I have tried, but please note that I don’t use waterproof mascaras at the moment. Also, the eyeshadow does not fully wash off.

For me, it is pretty much impossible to fully remove liquid lipsticks with just this cleanser as it is oil-free. The lipstick might fade in some areas, or might crumble unevenly, but it will not be fully washed off. Just like with eyeshadow, I have to go in with an oil-based remover to remove liquid lipsticks.

My favorite part about it is that it breaks up the makeup and washes off so easily without needing to use a cotton pad or a cleansing cloth. This is obviously more messy, but I don't mind it.

I use this as my first or second cleanse, then I use an oil-based remover to remove my liquid lipstick and any leftover eye makeup, if any, and then I use my final cleanser.
